How we classify clubs

Budget, Mid-Tier, Full Service & Luxury — What Each Tier Means

Every club in our directory gets sorted into one of four tiers based on its amenities and brand — so the badge you see tells you something real before you ever walk in.

Price ranges below are national averages — actual pricing can vary depending on your region.

Budget Health Club

Typically $15–$40 / month

No-frills, big-box gyms built around basic cardio and weight equipment at the lowest price point — plus senior centers. You're paying for access, not amenities.

Look for: Planet Fitness, Crunch Fitness, Blink Fitness, Fitness 19, EōS Fitness

Mid-Tier Health Club

Typically $30–$65 / month

The largest category — standard equipment, group classes, and reasonably maintained facilities, without resort-style amenities or big-box stripped-down pricing. Most independent gyms and boutique studios land here by default.

Look for: LA Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Orangetheory Fitness, and most independent/local gyms

Full Service Health Club

Typically $75–$150 / month

Multi-amenity clubs — pools, tennis or basketball courts, spa services, or golf — plus YMCAs, park district/recreation centers with a full fitness floor, and hospital- or university-affiliated wellness centers. More to use than just the weight floor.

Look for: YMCA locations, park district and recreation centers with pool + weight room, hospital/university wellness centers, clubs with a pool + court combination

A note on pricing: the ranges above are general estimates based on typical U.S. gym membership costs, not figures we've verified for every location. Actual pricing varies significantly by region, specific club, contract length, and promotional offers — always confirm current rates directly with the club.
